Friends of the Parks strives to build projects that help enhance users enjoyment of Lakeway's parks and trails. Examples of these projects include the bird blind, numerous bridges, bird houses, and even the trails in the parks themselves.
The Wilderness Run was an annual event put on by the Friends of the Parks organization. It took participants through the trails of Hamilton Greenbelt, usually offering a short and long option to choose from. It served as the organizations largest fund raiser for the year with all revenue going right back into improving Lakeway's parks and trails.
Each year, the organization is required to have an annual membership meeting where an update is provided on the group's finances, projects, plans, etc. Also, any necessary membership votes often occur at this event. It is usually accompanied by a BBQ dinner and guest speaker(or two).

The group sometimes reaches out to local naturalists to go on guided hikes. These hikes are often in areas not regularly open to the public and offer a great chance to learn about the area's unique flora and fauna.
The Lakeway 4th of July parade is a great piece of Lakeway tradition that the group has proudly participated in across the years. It's also a great way to get the group visibility in the community.
The volksmarch was created as a fall event to counter the Wilderness Run in the spring. It took participants on a guided hike from the Canyonlands main trailhead to the top of Mt. Lakeway and back. It was then followed up with some socializing and beer and pretzels to honor the German theme of the event.
